Human Sacrifice to the Biblical Volcano God.

Quote from link below regarding volcano gods in general: When that volcano blows its stack, you never know if you're going to get a gentle, easily-avoidable stream of lava, or an apocalyptic explosion. With such explosive power on their doorstep, the natives of many of these islands figure that the volcano is home to a fire god, who can be kept safely dormant through proper care and feeding.

Examples of human sacrifice in film and literature....

  • In The Return of Hanuman, there's a big volcano which should be either fed with mangoes... or humans to prevent the volcano from turning into some demon who eats the villagers.

  • Duke in Doonesbury once controlled an island that sacrificed a virgin to the volcano every month. When that year's maiden backed out at the last second, (saying, "Stop pushing, Daddy!) he ended the practice, and a host of plagues descended upon the region. ng

  • The Far Side portrayed virgins being sacrificed by island natives.

  •  In Tiki Mountain, the players race to the top of the volcano for the honor of flinging themselves in and appeasing the Angry Volcano God.

  • In Garfield In Paradise, the volcano rejects the usual virgin (Princess Owooda, a Pacific Islander doppelganger of Jon's crush/future girlfriend Dr. Liz) (and her cat) and requests Jon's rental car instead (a vintage 1950s Cadillac).

  • No sacrifice is shown, but an episode of Family Guy had a psychologist secretly videotape the Griffin family highlighting their extreme disfunctionality. In one inexplicable clip of their living room Peter angrily slaps Chris (while both wearing leaf skirts) crying "Do you want to anger the volcano?!"

  • I think hints are often dropped in computer games, films, etc. The elite will know and will enjoy playing games.

    More volcano appeasing examples can be found here, but don't go until you've read the following!

    [The Lord speaking]  "The one who has stolen what was set apart for destruction will himself be burned with fire, along with everything he has, for he has broken the covenant of the LORD and has done a horrible thing in Israel."  (Joshua 7:15 NLT)

    Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself.  As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself.  In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble;  (Wisdom 3:5-7 NAB The Book of The Wisdom of Solomon is mostly in Catholic versions of the Bible.)

    As for you, son of man, prophesy: Thus says the Lord GOD against the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn for slaughter, burnished to consume and to flash lightning, because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.  Return it to its sheath!  In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.  I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.  You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land.  You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.  (Ezekiel 21:33-37 NAB)

    "Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods.  In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully.  If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it.  Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God.  That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt.  Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction.  Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you.  He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors.  "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him."  (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT) (Burning is the sacrificial method of choice for the fiery volcano god).

    War booty (spoils) in the Bible....

    31 So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
    32 The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep,
    33 72,000 cattle,
    34 61,000 donkeys
    35 and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.
    36 The half share of those who fought in the battle was: 337,500 sheep,
    37 of which the tribute for the LORD was 675;
    38 36,000 cattle, of which the tribute for the LORD was 72;
    39 30,500 donkeys, of which the tribute for the LORD was 61;
    40 16,000 people, of which the tribute for the LORD was 32.

    Everyone highlighted in red we can assume was deposited into the fiery caldera, and this heinous act then gave rise to the concept of hell in the lake of fire, the fiery pit. Human sacrifice was forbidden in Judaism, except when dealing with those pesky pagans that are as different to Jews as humans are to animals (see post below).

    Virgin girls kept as war booty after watching the mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, brothers (even baby brothers) and grandparents 'dashed against rocks' or 'dashed by the sword'....were then split into two camps....one big one to be used and abused booty calls (I wonder if that is where the term came from) by the Hebrews and another smaller one to be given to the lord to keep him placated.

    What a sobering thought. It's no wonder they start you on the New Testament and almost completely miss out the Old Testament isn't it?

    May I end this post with a part of a verse above I did not highlight in red...

    'In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble'

    I'm sure a human would 'shine' when deposited into a fiery caldera (shine bright white no doubt) and maybe they would also dart about....like sparks through stubble.....or like a water droplet in hot oil.....
